Welcome to look at a small assortment of things!
You can call me Odjur. That's Swedish for monster, but don't be afraid, I'm not really Swedish.
I'm an Eurasian forest troll, felipithecus sylvestris. I'm what some mythologies describe as a changeling. Due to an insufficient diet (mostly the lack of herbivore viscera and bone marrow) my fur and claws never developed correctly - winter-proof or hide-piercing - so for now I'm stuck in this noisy environment full of plastic and have to wear socks. I don't really like imitating human sounds or facial expressions but have quite the affinity for writing, which is why you're reading this instead of chatting with me over a cup of coffee.
Facts about me
- I'm 32 years old
- The number of houseplants in my care ranges from 30 to 40, depending on the time of the year
- My favorite tree is the Baltic pine
- My second favorite tree is the European white birch, though I also like the dwarf birch a lot
- Caffeine is really not good for the troll nervous system, but I drink coffee anyway because I'm stupid
- I don't like "men" or makeup or skirts, which apparently makes me a butch lesbian (it's actually just normal behavior for Eurasian forest trolls, but butch lesbians are incredible human beings and I'm very honored to be counted as one)
- I call myself a genderqueer, genderfucker and a dyke and use ey/em/eir pronouns because the local gender system doesn't really sit well with my understanding or body
My favorite things in some of the human cultures:
- Yarn
- The complexity and nuance in their languages
- The internet
- Soft hands! SO SOFT! (but don't touch me)
- Fearlessness around fire, which has led to things such as candles
- Metallurgy, especially piercing jewellery and big iron pots
- Many sciences
- My mate, who is a human and extremely wonderful, funny, kind and bright
- The endless amount of art tools and musical instruments
- Books and magazines
- Wooden hinges
My grievances concerning some of the human cultures:
- The neverending noise
- Bright lights
- The internet
- Impractical, rigid and nonsensical gender traditions and other phenotype-based social structures
- The way most things in the capitalist sphere are impractical, rigid and nonsensical
- Why do you make everything out of oil?
- Why aren't the caretakers and food-gatherers the most appreciated people in the "Western" society?
- Socks
- The way some humans keep collecting money even though they have food and a home already, and they don't even buy food and homes for other humans
- Disregarding the agency and self-determination of those who don't appear familiar enough (be they other humans, non-human animals, plants or ecosystems)
- Most chairs
